Colin Glen Experience
On Friday, September 23, a number of year 12 pupils pulled on their Wellington boots and set off for the Colin Glen Forest Park, Southwest of Belfast city centre, accompanied by Mrs Magee and Mr Armstrong. The purpose of the field study was to collect data as part of their GCSE Geography course. Paul, a field officer at the Colin Glen Trust, facilitated a walk along the Colin River and showed pupils how to take measurements at different sites along the river. Pupils got their feet wet when they measured the width and depth of the channel, the velocity of the water and size and shape of bedload, at six different locations. While pupils collected the crucial data for their controlled assessment, they also had an opportunity to put their classroom learning into real life terms.
