Extended Schools Programme Begins
During the summer holidays, the College began its Extended Schools Programme aimed at further embedding the College in the community. The Programme began with a Summer Scheme , the first for many years, for the new Year 8 pupils starting the school in September 2016. The aim of the Summer Scheme was to give the new pupils an opportunity to get to know each other before the first day of school, which can always be a nervous time. The Scheme was a highly successful and lasted for 2 weeks, which allowed the new pupils to participate in team building activities eg gaelic football, basketball and science. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed themselves, with many saying that it had helped them to feel less nervous about starting in September as they now knew some of their fellow pupils. Parents also praised the Summer Scheme as it gave their child the chance to make new friends and that they were excited for the first day in September.
Over the next few months the Extended Schools Programme will offer a variety of courses for members of our community including fitness training, music, cookery, Spanish and ICT.
